European Week against Racism
15th – 23rd March 2014
As part of the European Week against Racism, South Dublin County Council’s Social Inclusion Unit and Sports and Recreation Office with the F.A.I. Football in the Community Development Officers, Rugby Officer and Cricket Officer will hold a Sports blitz in Clondalkin Sports & Leisure Centre on Thursday 20th March and Tuesday 25th March utilising sport as a medium to highlight the anti-racism theme and to promote cultural integration and social inclusion through sport.
We are targeting 2nd Years in 2nd Level Schools in the county area and 6th class in primary schools with an emphasis on fair play and equality.
One of the main objectives of the Council is to facilitate initiatives to promote integration in the county. This is one of the reasons why we have organised the sports blitz as it highlights European Week against Racism. The day is about having fun whilst being conscious of the need to promote cultural integration and social inclusion through sport. It is about participation together! Each school taking part in the programme will design their own slogan against racism.
The willingness to learn about different cultures and to communicate with people is the key to a successful, fair and open society.
