Your Council Your Vote!
South Dublin County Council in collaboration with Dublin City Council, Fingal County Council and Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council have organised a poster campaign to encourage everybody who is eligible to register to vote in the Local and European Elections which will be held on the 23rd May 2014.
Mayor Dermot Looney together with the members of South Dublin Migrant Integration Forum officially launched the South Dublin Council Voting Campaign on Tuesday 4th March at 11.00 am in County Hall, Tallaght. Speaking at the event, Mayor Dermot Looney stated; "This very worthwhile campaign promotes awareness about voter registration and the local and European elections on Friday, May 23rd. There are three key messages on which we need to spread the word. The first is that all residents over 18, regardless of citizenship, have the right to vote in local elections which matter to the communities in which we live. The second is that all European citizens have the right to vote in European elections which have a significant impact on us all. The final message is the ease with which a person can check the register and, indeed, register to vote. Every one of us has an equal say at the ballot box - so it is crucial that people are informed on their voting rights ahead of May's elections”.
The Council has organised two events to afford people the opportunity to register to vote. The events will be held in Clondalkin Intercultural Centre, 15 Tower Road, Clondalkin, Dublin 22 on Thursday 13th March 2014 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm and Tallaght Drop In Centre, Mountain Park Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on Thursday 27th March 2014 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm.
