Eco –Week 2013
On the 14th March 2013, the Mayor of South Dublin County launched the Councils 9th Annual Eco-Week with the help of some students from Tallaght Community School who were regional finalists of the Junk Kouture competition.
Mayor Cathal King said “Eco –Week is a great opportunity for everyone to learn more about the environment and find out how our actions impact on our local area because it is our environment, where we work and live. Eco-Week aims to empower everyone in South Dublin County to engage in sustainable activities that will help green our County.â€
Mayor King continued “Every year Eco-Week celebrates the environment and all it has to offer. It also gives helpful hints on how we can live in harmony with Mother Nature, through workshops, talks, exhibitions, pop-up Eco-shops and guided toursâ€
Also in attendance at the launch where Transition Year Students, Angelika Palka and Tori Wong from Tallaght Community School. These students along with fellow student Ornella Mazono entered the “Junk Kouture†competition, for the first time this year and made it through to the Eastern Regional Final. Junk Kouture is a Competition where second level students create a dress from recycled materials whilst at the same time educating themselves about the importance of recycling and reusing items for the good of the planet.
Mayor Cathal King said “I think that what these students have created is amazing & this encourages us to do our part for the environment. Come along to an Eco-Week workshop and take partâ€
