'A Feast of Trees - 'Féile na gCrainn'

National Tree Week organised by the Tree Council of Ireland takes place from 3-10 March 2013 and its theme this year is ‘A Feast of Trees'.

The Mayor Cathal King will officially launch Tree Week in South Dublin County by planting a tree next to Dominic’s Community centre. “I am delighted to be launching Tree Week in South Dublin County here in Dominic’s. This is a tree that will be cared for by the community here and it’s a real investment in the future. Trees make a real difference to the landscape and I urge everyone to take time this week – plant a tree if you can, take a walk in the park and enjoy a tree”

Tree Week is a week-long festival celebrating all positive aspects of trees in our lives and environment. Everyone is asked to recognise and celebrate the role of trees in providing food for humans, birds, bees and other wildlife. The range of foods from trees - fruit, nuts, seeds, oils, leaves, roots and bark will be highlighted along with the relationship between trees, bees, pollination, and food crop production.

South Dublin County parks are wonderful places to enjoy trees – for further details check www.sdcc.ie
