Connect Education Conference 2012 with Lord David Puttnam CBE.

There’s just a week to go now until the Connect Education Conference 2012 takes place in the Dublin West Education Centre in the grounds of IT Tallaght.

Date:   Thursday 11th October from 10.30am - 3.00pm

The Conference has been organised by South Dublin County Council and the South Dublin Children’s Services Committee and will be opened by Mayor Cathal King. The opening address will be given Pat Rabbitte TD Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources.

Themed “The Future is not what it used to be” the Conference will look at the nature of 21st century education and how teaching and learning are evolving at a faster pace than ever and indeed are often being led by young people themselves.

Six stimulating and brilliant speakers have been lined up, the best known of whom is undoubtedly Lord David Puttnam, Film-maker and Educationalist. Lord Puttnam is a strong advocate of the modernisation of teaching and learning methodologies and also a great believer in the use of technology in education.

Our Conference is particularly timely coming as it does just a week after the Minister of Education’s announcement (this afternoon) of reforms to the Junior Cert. Our panel discussion which concludes the Conference will look at the possible roles for non-traditional players such as the local authorities, health services, libraries, and young people in the delivery of education. Of particular interest is the cooperation of agencies and schools in the development of “Short Courses” for the new Junior Cert.
