Tallaght Stadium opens its gates for the first time

Mayor Marie Corr and fellow Members of South Dublin County Council are delighted to announce the opening of the Councils magnificent new Tallaght Stadium on Friday 13th March 2009 when it stages the League of Ireland match between Shamrock Rovers and Sligo Rovers with kick-off at 8.05pm. The match will be televised live by RTE.

This new stadium will house 3,000 spectators initially and will house 6000 spectators when fully complete. South Dublin County Council has entered into agreement with Shamrock Rovers Football Club whereby they will have use of Tallaght Stadium for their home games in the League and Cup Championships.

This is a great opportunity for the people of South Dublin County to see regular League of Ireland football on their doorstep and it is anticipated that this will provide a great focus among our young aspiring sports boys and girls.

South Dublin County Council will explore every opportunity to maximize the use of Tallaght Stadium.
