Press Release 8th September 2008

South Dublin County Council, first to install accessible to all underground bring bank.

The Mayor of South Dublin County Marie Corr, launched Irelands first underground glass bring bank at Sean Walsh Park, Tallaght on Monday 8th September 2008.

South Dublin County Council is the first local authority in Ireland to install an accessible to all underground bring bank. It was funded by South Dublin County Council and the National Disability Strategy Fund and was installed by Heiton Buckley.

The Mayor Marie Corr said The Council is committed to providing householders with recycling facilities all around the County and this accessible to all underground bring bank here at Sean Walsh Park is another example of how South Dublin County Council strives to provide up to date recycling facilities for everyone

Underground bring banks are a common feature in European cities and South Dublin County Council is proud to be the first local authority in Ireland to install an accessible to all underground bring bank. The opening on the newly installed Equinord underground bring bank is lower than standard bring banks and therefore accessible to wheelchair users. These new underground bring banks look similar to a litter bin, however when glass is placed in the chute it drops into a bin below ground.

South Dublin County Council has 58 locations throughout the County with recycling facilities. Materials that can be recycled vary from location to location and include glass, cans, plastic and textiles.
