Press Release 3rd September 2008

South Dublin County Council, first to install accessible to all underground bring bank.

The Mayor of South Dublin County Marie Corr will launch Irelands first underground glass bring bank at Sean Walsh Park, Tallaght on Monday 8th September at 10.30am.

South Dublin County Council is the first local authority in Ireland to install accessible to all underground bring bank. This initiative is another example of how South Dublin County Council constantly strives to provide up to date recycling facilities to all. It is the first accessible to all underground bring bank open to the public in Ireland. It was funded by South Dublin County Council and the National Disability Strategy Fund and was installed by Heiton Buckley.

South Dublin County Council Environmental Awareness Officer Sorcha OBrien stated Underground bring banks are a common feature in European cities and South Dublin County Council is proud to be the first local authority in Ireland to install an assessable to all underground bring bank. The opening on the newly installed Equinord underground bring bank is lower than standard bring banks and therefore accessible to wheelchair users. These new underground bring banks look similar to a litter bin, however when glass is placed in the chute it drops into a bin below ground.

South Dublin County Council has 58 locations throughout the County with recycling facilities. Materials that can be recycled vary from location to location and include glass, cans, plastic and textiles.
