PICTURE PERFECT WITH PLAYSTATION!

Artemis Fowl series of books inspires PlayStation3s new National Photographic Competition with the Library Council

The international bestselling series of books by Eoin Colfer, Artemis Fowl, has inspired PlayStation3 to launch an exciting new photographic competition for kids and teens in association with the Library Council and Penguin Books.

The initiative will appeal to 8 16 year olds who are encouraged to get their hands on a digital camera and get snapping over the next few weeks and bring their love of the 7 million-selling series of books to life in a photo.

Children across Dublin are invited to capture an image on their digital camera that they feel best represents their favourite Artemis Fowl book. The creative and educational dimension to this initiative does not stop there, however, as all photos will be uploaded by the PlayStation team onto the PlayStation3 console in participating libraries throughout Fingal County Council and South Dublin County Council in August where they will be stored for the judges to see!

The PlayStation team will be visiting the public libraries in Malahide on Wednesday August 6th from 10.00am 8.30pm, Balbriggan and Blanchardstown on Wednesday August 6th from 10.00am 5.00pm, and in Tallaght and Lucan on Wednesday August 27th from 9.45am to 8.00pm to accept and process all entries. On the day, budding photographers should bring their digital cameras containing their photo along with them and the team will look after the rest.

Although more generally associated with gaming, the Playstation 3 is more of an entertainment console than a pure gaming machine. The console can be used to watch movies, upload and listen to music, access the internet and can also be used to upload, store and browse through photographs.

Winners will be announced in September with one winner being chosen from each participating county council. As well as winning a Playstation 3 console, each of the winners will also receive a once in a lifetime prize of a limited edition copy of an Artemis Fowl book with their own winning image on the cover.

Speaking at the launch of the competition Niall OHanrahan, Managing Director, Sony Computer Entertainment Ireland, said: We are delighted that we have been able to create a fun and educational initiative that is inspired by the successful Artemis Foul series of books and allows us to demonstrate the versatility of Playstation 3. What better way for children to use their imagination over the Summer months than to capture images they feel depict their favourite books and then view these using Playstation 3s state of the art technology.
