New Mayor Elected for South Dublin County
At the Annual Meeting of the County Council held on Friday 27th June, 2008, at County Hall, Tallaght, Councillor Marie Corr, was elected Mayor of South Dublin.
Mayor Corr was proposed by Councillor Caitriona Jones and was seconded by Councillor Therese Ridge.
The outgoing Mayor Tony McDermott thanked his fellow Councillors, Joe Horan, County Manager, Management and Staff of the Council for their help and support during his office.
Addressing the Council following her election Mayor Corr paid a special tribute to our recently deceased Mayor, colleague and friend Billy Gogarty and extended her sympathies to the Gogarty family and in particular to Billys wife Mary and his son Paul who were present in the Council Chamber.
Mayor Corr also paid tribute to Billys successor as Mayor, Councillor Tony McDermott, Deputy Mayor Derek Keating and the many other Councillors who unselfishly performed the duties of Mayor during Billys illness and following his untimely death.
Councillor Guss O Connell, was elected Deputy Mayor unanimously. Deputy Mayor Guss O Connell was proposed by Councillor John Hannon and seconded by Councillor Maire Ardagh.

Councillor Catriona Jones Tallaght
Councillor Paddy Cosgrave Terenure / Rathfarnham
The Councillors and the County Manager paid tributes to their former colleague Mayor Billy Gogarty.
