Election of new Mayor for South Dublin County
Following the sad passing of our esteemed Mayor, Cllr. Billy Gogarty RIP, on Wednesday 21st. May 2008 a new Mayor for South Dublin County has been elected to fill the vacancy.
Councillor Tony McDermott was unanimously elected by his fellow Councillors to the office of Mayor of South Dublin County in accordance with Section 38 of the Local Government Act 2001 at a meeting of the County Council in County Hall, Tallaght on Monday 9th. June 2008.
Mayor McDermott will hold office for the remainder of the current term of office up to Friday 27th. June 2008 the date fixed for the 2008 Annual Meeting of the Council and the annual election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor.
Councillor McDermott was elected to South Dublin County Council in 2004 representing the Terenure/Rathfarnham Electoral Area. He is a Council representative on the Dublin Regional Authority; KWCD (Kimmage, Walkinstown, Crumlin, Drimnagh) Partnership; Vocational Education Committee; Regional Drugs Task Force; County Development Board and the County Enterprise Board. He is also Chairman of the Councils Environment Strategic Policy Committee.
