Scoil Mhuire N.S Woodview, Lucan raised its first Green Flag for Waste and Litter on Thursday 29th May 2008. Deputy Mayor of South Dublin County Derek Keating attended the flag raising ceremony and he congratulated the staff, pupils, board of management and parents association at Scoil Mhuire NS saying Your actions here at Scoil Mhuire speak louder than words and you have all taken part in helping the environment by recycling and keeping your school and neighbourhoods clean. So keep up the good work and keep the Green Flag flying!

To achieve the Green Flag for Waste and Litter the staff and pupils at Scoil Mhuire NS have dramatically reduced the amount of waste going to landfill through initiatives such as recycling, using lunch boxes instead of tinfoil and cling film wrappings, reducing photocopying and reusing paper.

Scoil Mhuire NS Green Schools Committee comprised of parents, pupils, the principal Mr. Henry Thynne, Secretary Ms. Marie Murray and the school caretaker Paddy Mulhern, and the Green Schools Coordinator Mr. John Egan.

Green Schools is an International Environmental Education Programme that promotes and acknowledges whole school, long-term action for the environment. At present over 2,700 Irish schools are participating in the programme and over 1116 have been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award. There are currently over 14,500 schools in 37 countries taking part in the Programme internationally.
