Oidhreacht-Our Heritage Annual Photographic Competition 2007
Official Launch of Exhibition and Presentation of Prizes
Ballyroan Library, Tuesday 28th August at 8pm
Launch and prize-giving by Mayor Billy Gogarty
The official launch of the eighth annual Oidhreacht photographic exhibition and presentation of prizes takes place at Ballyroan Library on Tuesday 28th August at 8pm. This is one of South Dublin County Libraries initiatives to celebrate History and Heritage Month.
Mayor Billy Gogarty will officially launch the exhibition and present the prizes and certificates to the winners and runners-up. The exhibition will run at Ballyroan Library until the end of September.
The objective of this competition is two-fold firstly to raise awareness of the heritage of the South Dublin County area and secondly to allow South Dublin County Libraries to build up a photographic collection which is relevant to our county.
This years competition has attracted over 150 photographs in two categories over 18 and under 18. Entries were received from all over South Dublin County. There is a broad diversity in the photographic content, revealing fascinating individual interpretations of the heritage of our county. The word heritage is used in the broadest possible sense and includes our physical heritage, our built heritage castles, churches, bridges etc., our urban landscape and social scenes of people at work and play.
A different judging panel is invited to adjudicate each year and this year we are most grateful to the competition judges Mr Joe Webb, member the Dublin Camera Club and manager of the Camera Centre, Tallaght, Mr Michael Lavelle photographer, and Ms. Irene McLoughlin, Conservation Officer with South Dublin County Council.
The Winners in both categories are as follows:
Adult:
1st prize: Gary Somers, Firhouse
Joint 2nd: George Graham, Clondalkin
Joint 2nd: Brewel Cottage, Dunlavin, Co Wicklow
3rd Prize: Han Lau, Rathcoole
