Title: Co-ordinator of arts and disability training programme (part-time post)

Background: Clondalkin Partnership, South Dublin County Council and Stewarts Hospital Palmerstown are working to develop a new Certificate in Arts and Disability Training working with integrated groups. The overall aim of the project is to provide quality training and good practice in facilitation skills to local artists interested in participating in arts and disability. The purpose of the training is to enable capacity building in the community arts sector. With an emphasis on equality and inclusion, there is a great need among artists and organisations to develop a long-term sustainable arts programme. The training will involve master classes for local artists and workshops for participants. Both the master classes and workshops will include disabled / non- disabled people. The workshops will be designed with an emphasis on an open studio atmosphere, with a focus on encouraging self expression.

Job description:

We are seeking a part-time Coordinator for a new Certificate in Arts and Disability Training: working with integrated groups project. The job consists of planning and implementing a weekly training programme for community artists who wish to gain skills in working in the area of disability. The project also includes organising and coordinating a summer project in 2008 for the trainee artists who will be working with clients with special needs. The Coordinator will deliver the Facilitation Skills module of the programme. The Coordinator will be responsible to a Steering Committee appointed by the inter-agency partnership. The job is offered on a part-time basis for 1 year (on average 20 hours a week). The salary is 15,000.

The work is based in South County Dublin and will begin in September 2007.

Essential requirements:

The ideal candidate would need to have the following skills:

-          Planning and administration skills (report writing; logistics and organising venues, tutors; recruitment of students and promotion of course)

-          Managerial skills

-          ability to structure an education and training programme

-          ability to identify learners needs and requirements and to design solutions that meet these

-          ability to support learners and tutors

-          be able to work with the steering committee to design, plan and implement the programme

-          be able to facilitate groups

-          be able to teach facilitation skills

-          be able to liaise with partnership groups, state bodies and community organisations

-          have experience as an artist in any discipline

 

They would be expected to be available to tutors and students during the training programme.

Supplementary requirements:

The following are desirable but not absolutely essential;

-          be able to work with groups using an art skill

-          be interested in integrated learning

-          have experience in adult or community education

-          be able to conduct evaluations

-          be familiar with accreditation procedures and especially with FETAC requirements
