Young people from South Dublin County to take part in a European Youth Seminar in Germany
South Dublin County Comhairle na nOg members travel to Germany to attend a European Youth Seminar in the Institute of Youth Education in Bad Segeberg
A delegation of young people from South Dublin County Comhairle na ng will travel to the Institute of Youth Education in Bad Segeberg, Germany at the kind invitation of the Council of Bad Segeberg, to participate in a Youth Seminar entitled Me and You and the EU. They will be joined by delegations from Poland, Estonia, the Ukraine and Germany. The aim of this multi-cultural event is to develop contact between young people of different countries whilst learning about their culture and political systems. South Dublin County is twinned with the district of Kreis Segeberg.
The programme of activities includes:
Presentation by each group on the political system in operation in their country.
Information briefings on European political structures and administration.
The young people will participate in a series of workshops:
- Workshop 1: Participation of Young People in youth parliaments.
- Workshop 2: Rights and Duties of Young People.
- Workshop 3: Good and bad issues affecting young people in their country.
Visit to German parliament in Berlin.
Production of a drama around the themes of the workshops.
South Dublin County Comhairle na ng was established in May 2002 and holds its meetings in the Council Chamber at County Hall, Tallaght. Each member represents one of the five electoral areas in South Dublin County. The Community Services Department of the Council is the secretariat for the Comhairle na ng.
The Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr. Billy Gogarty wished the youngsters well on their visit to Germany and he described the initiative as very exciting, worthwhile and innovative..
The young people will arrive in Germany on the 13th August and return to Ireland on 23rd August.
