The County Council sponsored Fas training Programme, Spoirt Teic will on the 30th March 2007, head for the scenic Blessington Lakes, not for a bit of rest and relaxation but for a deserving cause.
The Spoirt Teic Programme is a FAS Community Training Programme sponsored by South Dublin County Council which annually provides training and qualifications in Fitness Instruction, Sports Coaching & Recreational Leadership to young people from the South Dublin County Council administrative area.
Since its inception in 1993, the Spoirt Teic Programme has developed & expanded to meet the changing demands of the leisure industry & now offers international & national awards. The participants are equipped with the necessary skills to work as sports coaches in their local communities & to gain employment in any field of the health & leisure industry. Spoirt Teic has evolved into one of the most successful of such projects in the country. As well as the qualification side of things Spoirt Teic has always initiated as well as participated in community projects such as the highly successful schools soccer competition in 2006, as well as a basketball skills competition amongst the schools in the area, as well as assisting to run the recent Anti-Racism Soccer Blitz held in Clondalkin Sports & Leisure Centre
This years 23 trainees will undertake a sponsored 10km canoe race around Blessington Lakes followed by a 10km run around the perimeter of the lake in order to raise funds for the Childrens Ward in Tallaght Hospital. All funds raised will go towards the purchase of much needed toys and equipment for the Childrens Play room.
