GREEN SCHOOL CEREMONY ST. KEVINS GNS., KILNAMANAGH -15TH MARCH, 2007
St. Kevins Girls National School, Kilnamanagh celebrated the raising of their green flag on 15th March, 2007. The flag was raised by Mayor Eamon Maloney and is the Schools first flag for Litter and Waste.
Jillian Gleeson is the Schools Principal and Ms. Edith Walsh is the Green School Co-Ordinator. The school recycle stamps, ringos, paper, plastic and tetrapak. They also compost and recycle mobile phones and ink cartridges.
St. Kevins take part in regular spring-cleans and have reduced their waste in the past year by 55%
Green Schools is an international environmental education programme that promotes and acknowledges whole school, long-term action for the environment. The programme is operated in conjunction with An Taisce and the Local Authorities. The Green Flag is a very prestigious award. 32 schools in South Dublin presently have the Green Flag and more and more schools are participating in the programme all the time.
