The South Dublin County Councils Irish Language Scheme which outlines the future development of the Irish Language and provision of services through Irish in South Dublin County Council was confirmed by Eamon Cuv, Minister for Rural, Community and Gaeltacht Affairs on the 20th December 2006.There are three years in which the council must meet all the commitments taken in this policy. During this period there will be constant monitoring of its implementation. Existing and new legislative requirements, such as the Irish Language Act 2003 and upcoming regulations will also increase the Councils responsibilities in the provision of Services in Irish. As a result of research and consultation this policy is reflective of the views of people, both young and old which are involved with Irish in the County Mayor amonn Maloney added that In a County which supports a vibrant Irish speaking public the Irish Language Scheme should be very welcome and a means to develop and support Irish further in the County.
