St. Aidan’s Community School, Brookfield, Tallaght receive Junior Achievemnet Award County Hall Tall

South Dublin County Council Mayor Eamonn Maloney, presented Junior Achievement Certificates to 14 Third Form students from St. Aidans Community School, Brookfield, Tallaght on Wednesday 17^th January 2007.

The students were accompanied by their teacher, Mr. Kevin Shortall; Ms Rachel Neill-Watson, Development Officer of Junior Achievement, attended and Mrs. Patricia Devlin, South County Council Junior Achievement volunteer, Ms Siobhan and Mr. Dara Larkin of the Planning Department represented the Council staff.

Junior Achievement is a non-profit organisation working as a partnership between the business community and the education sector, providing a range of enterprise programmes to young people aged 15 18 years. This is South Dublin County Council's second year working with Junior Achievement. Three South Dublin County Council staff members have volunteered to participate in the Junior Achievement programme.

The Mayor congratulated the students, who had completed a programme in the Economics of Staying at School, and emphasized the importance of training for a career. He said,

Dont do it to please your teachers, or even your family. Find something you are interested in and do it to please yourselves. The students then asked the Mayor some challenging questions about local issues, including the Luas to Citywest and the impact Tallaght Hospital of the proposed single national childrens hospital.
