Children and Teenagers in South Dublin County enjoy the benefits of the 34million spent on Recreation and Amenity Policies across the County.

Over the last year South Dublin County Council has spent over 34m on the provision of Community & Recreational Infrastructure, focusing on facilities & programmes for children and teenagers in the county.

This funding has been provided, both directly through activities and facilities, and indirectly through grants to assist clubs and organisations.

Summer projects and community activity weeks across the County 70,175.

Family days at a variety of venues 55,000

Equipment grants to various clubs and organisations 60,950.

In addition many other initiatives were undertaken through the Countys schools

Examples of these are ;-.

   The first ever Badminton Coaching Programme

   Basketball skill teaching in association with Sport Teic

   Soccer Tournaments set up in association with Sport Teic

The Council also provides and maintains numerous facilities for sports and activities but also for passive recreation.

   1600 hectares of Parks and open spaces

   5 Regional Parks and 50 neighbourhood Parks

   150 Playing pitches for Gaelic Football, Hurling and soccer, catering for over 800 teams involving approximately 14,000 people.

   Tennis facilities provided at 8 centres

   2 all weather athletic tracks

   Angling facilities at Corkagh Park

   15 all weather pitches

   Irelands only purpose built Baseball facility in Corkagh Park

   All weather/multi use facilities in Jobstown, Tallaght and Clondalkin.

   Upgrading of many of the existing facilities.

   Recently opened Skateboard Park in Lucan

   New Swimming pool Gym and Leisure Centre in Tallaght

Plans for 2007 in South Dublin County include opening the newly refurbished Clondalkin Swimming Pool and Sports Centre in June and the design of a similar swimming facility in Lucan. New playground facilities will be provided under the recently launched Play Policy, adding to the 9 playgrounds already in use. (These include the woodland playground at Tymon Park, specially constructed for use by adults as well as children )

2007 will see also the introduction of the local Sports Partnership for the County and engagement of 3 F.A.I Football in the Community Development Officers.
