Mayor hosts Civic Reception to Honour the Dublin Camogie Team

Mayor Eamonn Maloney on behalf of the Members of South Dublin County Council will host an official reception in honour of the Dublin Camogie Team in County Hall Tallaght on Monday 13th November at 6.30 pm.
Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael which celebrated its centenary in 2004 was founded in Dublin. Dublin Camogie has an affiliation of 40 clubs all over Dublin city and county and caters for girls from 7 years to 70+ years! Thomas Davis, Ballinteer St. Johns, Faughs/Celtic St. Annes, St. Judes, St. Marks, Ballyboden St. Endas and Round Towers are in the South Dublin County Council area.
There are 2500 registered juvenile players and 1500 adult players playing regularly under the auspices of Dublin Camogie each week and the association organises Cups, Leagues and Championships from under 10 Blitzes upwards to Senior Adult level. Dublin last won a Junior All-Ireland in 1971 and 1975 and last won the Senior title in 1984.Dublin won the Junior All-Ireland Championship title in 2005 and retained the title in 2006.
Anne McCluskey from Erins Isle club is the captain of this years winning team and Ciara Lucey from Ballybden St. Endas club is the vice-captain.Ciara is also Dublins first Camogie All-Star receiving her All Star Award last year.
Next year Dublin will participate in the Senior Grade in National League and Championship.
Cumann Camogaiochta na nGael is a separate sporting body from the GAA. There are integration talks in progress between the GAA, Ladies Football and the Camogie Association.
Manager, Peter Lucey (St. Judes) and selectors Pat Fanning (Scoil Ui Chonaill) Caroline Duggan (Na Fianna) and Doirin Golden (Faughs/Celtic) mentored this dedicated group of players for the past three years. They have decided that the time is right for them to step down now. We thank them for their inspiring leadership and commitment during their three years and we wish them all the best.
