Councillor Robert Dowds representing Mayor Eamonn Maloney and the Members of South Dublin County Council will attend the Official opening of the new football complex in Ballyowen Park Clondalkin on Friday 22nd September at 11.30 am in the presence of Minister Mary Harney TD.

 

South Dublin Football league founded in 1972 with 12 teams.

        Based in various venues around the south side of the city with Greenhills Community Centre being the latest.

        It runs teams from the age of 8 to 17

        Increasing in size over the years to its current strength of 360 teams comprising of approximately 6500 players.

        The committee run seventy competitions in any season for the different age groups in the league.

        The league annual presentation is the first Sunday in July it presents over two thousand five hundred medals and seventy trophies to the winners and runners up.

        Since its foundation it has provided football for well over one hundred thousand kids.

        The whole of south Dublin and adjoining areas are catchment areas for players and clubs.

        The league is run by a committee of 10 volunteers.

        Season 1996/97 it was decided that the league would have to get a home of its own. Negotiations with South Dublin County Council resulted in the building of a new premises in Ballyowen Park to become the home of the South Dublin League.

        With the help of government grants and extensive fund raising by the committee and a site supplied by South Dublin County Council our premises in Ballyowen Park became a reality.

        Building started in March 2005 Completed in July 2006.
