Thousands to be deleted from Voters Register in South Dublin County

Preparatory work is well underway by South Dublin County Council on the compilation of the Register of Electors 2007/2008. Work carried out to date has highlighted the lack of contact with the Council, by a large number of householders and potential voters, either to staff on the beat or through submission to the Council, of the necessary information regarding persons in the household who are eligible to vote.

By the end of September all households in the County will have been contacted by the Council in its effort to update the information from the previous years Register of Electors. Where households have been visited twice by Council staff, but no contact made, the Council has no option other than to issue a notice stating that all names listed in the previous Register of Electors for that household will be deleted from the new Draft Register.

Based on recent indicators projected from the work undertaken so far by the Council, thousands of South Dublin residents who would otherwise be eligible to vote, will not be placed on the Register of Electors 2007/2008 because they have not furnished up to date information regarding persons eligible to vote, to South Dublin County Council.

IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF EACH PERSON ELIGIBLE TO VOTE TO ENSURE THAT THEY ARE INCLUDED ON THE REGISTER OF ELECTORS FOR 2007/2008.

As part of a general awareness/information process South Dublin County Council staff will visit shopping centres/supermarkets in its area during the month of November. Councils mobile library service will also provide information and forms to its customers on request
