Press Release 18 July 2006
Two entries from South Dublin County Council in the Pride of Place Competition.
Two communities - Castle Park/Castle Lawns and Fettercairn - have entered the Pride of Place Competition this year. This is the first time that a group from the County have got involved in this all island competition.
Judging takes place on Monday 24th July.
The competition is all about people coming together to change and improve their area. The residents in both communities are busy improving the appearance of their locality, getting to know their neighbours and having a bit of fun as well. The groups were supported by South Dublin County Council, St Vincent de Paul and local groups in the area.
Both communities have made great strides in involving the residents in environmental improvements planting, litter picking, painting walls and maintaining flower beds and containers. Activities also included training events and visits to Botanic Gardens and arranging community events.
Pride of Place is hosted by Cooperation Ireland and in 2005 over ninety groups entered the competition from North and South of the island.
