New Mayor for South Dublin County

At the annual meeting held on 30th June at County Hall Cllr Therese Ridge presented the chain of office to the New Mayor Eamonn Maloney. Mayor Maloney (Labour) was proposed by party colleague Cllr Catriona Jones and seconded by Alex White. The opposing party proposed Cllr Trevor Gilligan and Cllr Gilligan was outvoted by 16 votes to 7.

The outgoing Mayor thanked the Management and Staff of the Council for their help and support throughout the year. Cllr Ridge said she had during her year focussed on getting initiatives started to tackle anti-social behaviour in our Housing area. And through the year was pleased to see a number of programmes examined that would in the future alleviate some of the issues and see better use of the Councils resources in addressing this area.

Mayor Maloney addressed the Council following his election and identified the area of Housing as the one he intends to focus on during his term. He referred to the high number of people on our Housing lists (5,000) and said it was an issue he wished to bring to the fore.

The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr Alex White who was presented with the chain of office by last years Deputy Mayor Cllr Karen Warren. The other nominee was Cllr Cait Keane and was outvoted in a roll call vote by 16 to 7.

The new area chairs elected as follows;

Cllr Robert Dowds Clondalkin/Lucan

Cllr Karen Warren Tallaght
