Flavours of South Dublin Food Festival

Rathfarnham Castle Park

Sunday 24 June 2018

This free food and cultural festival will showcase the wide variety of ethnic and cultural groups living and working within South Dublin County Council area through food, entertainment and a craft village.

The Flavours of South Dublin Food Festival is scheduled to take place in Rathfarnham Castle Park on Sunday 24 June from 11.00 am – 6.00 pm. This unique food festival will showcase the very best cuisine from the locality, and aims to highlight the diversity and vibrancy of the food culture in the county. This is the second year of the festival, it is free to attend and guarantees to be a great day out for the whole family.

The Festival will take place in the grounds of Rathfarnham Castle, which dates from Elizabethan times and is probably the earliest example of what is termed a ‘fortified house’ built in Ireland. Over the past thirty years an extensive programme of preservation and restoration has secured the historic fabric of the building and returned the principal Georgian interiors to their former glory. On the day there will be free guided tours of the Castle ( www.rathfarnhamcastle.ie).

Visitors and locals alike are encouraged to come along and try some of the gourmet cuisine and delectable tastes. The festival will feature flavours from around the world, from traditional Irish fare, to Asian dishes, with something to suit all tastes.

Commenting on the launch of the festival, Maria Finn, South Dublin County Council, said “We are absolutely delighted to host The Flavours of South Dublin in Rathfarnham Castle Park on June 24. The food festival will bring together all the wonderful restaurants, eateries, and suppliers from our locality, with cultural elements and crafts also on display. The festival will provide residents and visitors the opportunity to experience the wide variety of food and culture our county has to offer.”

Ms Finn continued, “We want to enable everyone living in our community to fully participate in our society, by promoting an inclusive and dynamic environment in South Dublin where residents are valued, regardless of their nationality, religion or ethnic background. This is our second year of the festival, and our hope is that it will bring the many people living across South Dublin together for a day of celebration through food and music.”
