Unwrapped 2016 - A Winter Celebration
A FREE outdoor spectacle based on an original story The Wren Boys-Girls and The Snow Queen
an Alternative Festive Tale
To mark the beginning of the festive season.
3rd December 2016 at 4:45pm
The Event:
The story of Christmas, but not as we know it! Winter’s dark days are a time of the year when anything can happen.
The Wren Boys and Girls, a group of magical travelling players, come to town and conjure up the 4 Elements; Earth, Wind, Fire and Water to mix a potent festive spirit.
Setting out on an adventure accompanied by six Reindeer and a cheeky spirit called Puck, they meet Jack and Jill Frost along the way and awaken an icy Snow Queen.
Faced with a total FREEZE, our heroes and heroines have to find a way to halt the Snow Queen’s freezing intent and save the world!
- UNWRAPPED is an annual winter celebration. Children, young people, and communities of all ages join professional artists to “unwrap” the festive winter season through a combination of music, performance and visual arts.
- For UNWRAPPED ‘16, over 200 children, young people and adults from South Dublin County’s youth, school, disability and community arts, performance and music groups will bring this original story to life through dance, colourful lanterns and costumes.
Over 200 people are involved in the creation, staging and promotion of Unwrapped 2016, including both Community and Professional Arts groups.
The annual UNWRAPPED programme is developed by a creative partnership between South Dublin County Council Arts Office and Corporate Services Department; South Dublin County Community Services Department, South Dublin Libraries; Tallaght Community Arts; Alternative Entertainment; Contact Studio; RUA RED South Dublin Arts Centre, Civic Theatre Tallaght, South Dublin County Music Education Partnership and Down to Earth Theatre Company.
UNWRAPPED 2016 has been generously supported by The Square Shopping Centre and Clondalkin Credit Union.
