A Celebration of Music & Spoken Word at the Pearse Museum

Friday 16th August 2016, 6.30pm & 7.30pm

Part of Culture Night 2016

On Friday 16th September, venues across Ireland will come alive with the sights and sounds of music, art and culture for Culture Night 2016. Music Generation South Dublin is delighted to be joining Tallaght Community Arts and the OPW/Pearse Museum in presenting a night celebrating music and spoken word at the Pearse Museum, St Enda’s Park Rathfarnham. This free event will include a bodhrán workshop, outdoor traditional concert and performance by Adam Lynham Clarke as William Pearse.

Culture Night at the Pearse Museum aims to commemorate 1916 and the spirit of Patrick Pearse’s school that defied tradition through music and spoken word.

Visitors on the night will be able to discover their hidden talent with a bodhrán workshop hosted by world recorder holder, Robbie Walsh from The Bodhrán Buzz in the school’s Halla Mór. This 45 minute workshop will then be followed by a public concert where workshop participants will have the chance to play alongside some of Ireland’s most exceptional traditional musicians.

Tallaght Community Arts music group will play a composition from their recent production AERIDHEACHTwhich performed at the museum in July.

Afterwards, come take a walk in the Art Gallery and learn more about William Pearse, Patrick's brother who fought beside him in 1916 and who was a renowned sculptor and artist.

Then later treat yourself to an outdoor traditional music concert in the Courtyard by members of Music Generation South Dublin’s Trad Group and Blessington Trad Group with a cup of coffee and a treat!

All activities are family-friendly and completely free in this setting unique to South Dublin County.

Please note numbers are limited for workshop and will be issued on a first come, first served basis. For more information, or to book email: info@musicgenerationsouthdublin.ie

Culture Night is brought to you by the Department of Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, in collaboration with South Dublin County Council, Music Generation South Dublin, Tallaght Community Arts and the Office of Public Works.

About Tallaght Community Arts

Tallaght Community Arts is an arts development company that fosters and supports participation in the arts for the well-being and enjoyment of all.  We create opportunities for artists and the people of South Dublin County to explore together the transformative and celebratory power of the arts.

We believe that by putting each individual at the centre of the creative process we can challenge, inform and transform.  We often work with people not well represented in our society

As an arts development organization we create work in the heart of communities; in schools, community gardens, football stadiums and individual people’s homes – as well as in designated arts spaces.  Our work focuses on participatory arts, encouraging and supporting people of all ages to be involved in the making of art.

We commission new works and seed projects across South Dublin County opening up the transforming power of the arts to a diverse group of participants and audiences.

As an organisation we have established a number of long term initiatives in the areas of cultural diversity, youth at risk, older citizens, people with disabilities as well as young emerging artists.

We work in partnership with local and national agencies to foster sustainable community development with the arts playing a dynamic role in addressing the needs of Tallaght and the wider South Dublin County communities: geographically, culturally and socially.

Our work nearly always invites the public to join us in sharing and celebrating and the work that participants have achieved working alongside artists.

Participants have found that working with leading national and international artists has given them new skills and expanded horizons.  Artists have in turn enhanced their own work.

Tallaght Community Arts is a registered charity: Registered Charity Number: CHY 11678
