Closing Ceremony for Bealtaine Festival
Tuesday 31st May 2016
Lucan Spa Hotel
On Tuesday 31st May Mayor Sarah Holland will officially close the Bealtaine Festival, the festival celebrating Creativity in Older Age. Bealtaine is co-ordinated by Age and Opportunity, the national organisation working to promote greater participation by older people in society. The name "Bealtaine" comes from the ancient Celtic festival of that name celebrating springtime, freshness and renewal. The festival promotes social and community networking and stimulation of older people to participate in events. It was a major opportunity for enjoyment and celebration of the creativity in older people as they age.
It also provides a stimulus to initiate programmes for older people every year. It promotes social inclusiveness and creates awareness of the abilities of older people. The festival allows older people to share their talents which are good for their self-esteem and it attracted a wider audience across the county. We had 80 events taking place all over the county for the month of May and over 4,000 people participated.
Mayor Sarah Holland will present the winners of the Bealtaine Competition “As you age what makes you happy” with their awards. This will be followed by light refreshments and a Tea Dance.
