Crowds walk their way to Operation Transformation 2016

Once again there was a great turnout for the annual Operation Transformation walk organised by South Dublin County Sports Partnership (SDCSP), which took place last Saturday, January 9th, in Tymon Park.

A crowd of around 450 people of all ages and abilities took park and even though the route had to be shortened due to parts of the walk being flooded, the dry weather on the day meant the occasion was enjoyed by all.

South Dublin County Sports Partnership would like to thank St. Judes GAA for their assistance with car park and hall facilities and Kiltipper Ramblers walking club for providing volunteers.

As part of the events of Operation Transformation, a large number of local organisations - sports clubs, schools and community groups - are organising weekly walks, these walks are open to all members of the community, not just to organisation members.

Some of the local organisations organising walks include:

Lucan Sarsfields GAA

Ballyboden St. Endas GAA

Round Towers GAA

Kiltipper Ramblers

An Cosán

Lucan Community Group

Quarryvale Family Resource Centre

Greenhills College

Deansrath Community School

Clonburris NS

Nano Nagle NS

Talbot NS

Bawnogue NS

South Dublin County Sports Partnership is also offering indoor walking classes in Perrystown Community Centre (Wednesdays, 10-11am) and Knockmitten Community Centre (Thursdays, 10-11am), starting this week for 5 weeks.  For further information on these classes please contact the community centres directly or email info@sdcsp.ie

The Operation Transformation programme will end on Saturday, February 20th 2016 with a 5k fun run in the Phoenix Park – interest in this event has been very high and in previous years this event has sold out very quickly.

SDCSP are advising people that they can register for free and attend one of the three 5k Parkrun events that take place weekly in Griffeen Valley Park, Tymon Park and Waterstown Park. Parkrun is a free, weekly, chip timed, non-competitive event that is supported by SDCSP and South Dublin County Council and takes place every Saturday at 9.30am.
