Mayor Sarah Holland presents An Taoiseach and an Tánaiste with the South Dublin County centenary programme of events at the launch of the 31 Local Authority Plans as part of Ireland 2016's Community Participation strand.

 

Mayor Sarah Holland and Chief Executive, Daniel McLoughlin joined An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD, An Tánaiste, Joan Burton TD, the Minister for the Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, Heather Humphreys TD, and the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Alan Kelly TD, for the launch of 31 local and community plans on Thursday 8th October 2015 at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Royal Kilmainham. The programmes include over 1,800 events and initiatives across the country to mark the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising.

 

The County Plans, led by the Local Authority network, are the outcome of 84 public consultation meetings held all around the country earlier this year, including workshops in Tallaght Stadium and Lucan Library.

 

The programmes contain events and initiatives ranging across all seven strands of the Ireland 2016 programme. Some of the events planned in South Dublin County include:

 

State/Ceremonial

  • An Official visit will take place to Pearse Museum, St. Enda’s Park, to commemorate Pádraig Pearse, the educationalist and literary Figure

 

Historical Reflection

  • South Dublin and the 1916 Rising Exhibition. As well as the physical exhibition, the exhibition will also be made available online, and will include the 1916 Roll of Honour, an updated and corrected list of Dublin 1916 combatants.

 

The Living Language/ An Teanga Bheo

 

  • Mayor’s Initiative - Bilingual Poetry Competition for Primary Schools. The  Mayor of South Dublin County will invite schools to participate in a poetry competition to commemorate 1916.

 Youth and Imagination

 

  • Proclamation for a New Generation and Time Capsule for 2116 in association with South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg.

 

Community Participation

 

  • Bealtaine Festival. A tour of Pearse Museum with afternoon tea and a music recital for Active Age.

 

Cultural Expression

 

  • Development of a Civic Plaza on Grange Road Rathfarnham

Legacy Project- New pedestrian and cycle entrance and civic space located near the historic St. Enda’s Park and Pearse Museum.

 

Global and Diaspora

 

  • Sister Cites Agreement of Partnership between South Dublin County and the City of Tampa, Florida, USA.
