Exploring Dublin at the Red Line Book Festival

 

Travel writers Julianne Mooney, Karl Whitney and Pat Liddy will explore Dublin’s many wonders at an event in Ballyroan Library, Rathfanham, next Monday, 12th October as part of the Red Line Book Festival. They will attempt to discover some of Dublin’s secrets and hidden places even unknown to native Dubliners!

“Julianne, Karl and Pat bring to the Red Line Book Fesitval a unique perspective of Dublin from a tourism perspective” said Caroline Higgins, one of the organisers of the festival. “Dublin is a global tourist attraction, but there is more to this city and county than meets the eye, and that’s what we hope to discover on the night.”

This years Red Line Book Festival runs from 11th to 17th October and takes place in venues across South Dublin County, such as the Civic Theatre, Rua Red Arts Centre and South Dublin Public Libraries. The festival is funded by South Dublin County Council and managed by South Dublin Libraries and Arts. The programme aims to develop a high profile book festival for the county showcasing the best of national and international contemporary writing which will have a significant impact on the literary landscape of Ireland.

“We are delighted to be hosting this event as part of the Red Line Book Festival in our magnificent and recently refurbhished Ballyroan Library”, said Domitilla Fagan, Senior Executive Librarian at South Dublin Libraries. “We are looking forward to a relaxing evening of discussion and discovery at Ballyroan”.

 

Exploring Dublin takes place at Ballyroan Library on Monday 12th October at 7pm. It is a free event.

Julianne Mooney is an Irish Travel Writer and Programme Director for the Dublin Book Festival. She is the author of the Time Out Guide to Ireland, presents a travel slot on Ireland AM, TV3 and has contributed to many radio travel programmes.

Pat Liddy is an artist, historian, writer, illustrator and broadcaster who has helped make Dublin a global tourist attraction. The author and illustrator of over seven books on the city, as well as others on Irish Cultural sites, Pat is the walking tour operator of Pat Liddy’s Walking Tours of Dublin.

Karl Whitney is a writer from Dublin. His first book, Hidden City: Adventures and Explorations in Dublin explores the hidden places and untold stories of Ireland’s capital city. Colm Tóibín, in his review for the Guardian, called it an “ingenious and affectionate book about Dublin”.
