Library After Dark Writers Café at the Red Line Book Festival
Ever wondered what goes on behind the scenes in your local library once the lights are switched off and it’s locked up for the evening? Would you have guessed that, once a month, when the book shave been stacked back on their shelves and the public have gone home, a bunch of new and emerging writers decend on the quiet confines of Clondalkin Library to explore various forms and genres of writing in this creative writing enclave? They call it the Library After Dark Writers Café and they have decided to unlock the doors, come out into the open and present the fruits of their work at the Red Line Book Festival.
Poet, writer and Library After Dark Café mentor, Colm Keegan, will host this showcase of some of the work that has come out of this initiative.
“A key feature of the Red Line Book Festival is its support for new writing”, said Patricia Fitzgerald, one of the organisers of the festival. “The Library After Dark Café is open to new and emerging writers and takes place in the confines of the wonderful Carnegie built Clondalkin Library in the evening when the Library is closed. For this showcase of new work we decided to avail of the intimate setting of the Loose End Studio in the Civic Theatre, Tallaght. There will be delightful musical interludes from Ailie Blunnie on the night”.
This years Red Line Book Festival runs from 11th to 17th October and takes place in venues across South Dublin County, such as the Civic Theatre, Rua Red Arts Centre and South Dublin Public Libraries. The festival is funded by South Dublin County Council and managed by South Dublin Libraries and Arts. The programme aims to develop a high profile book festival for the county showcasing the best of national and international contemporary writing which will have a significant impact on the literary landscape of Ireland.
Library After Dark Writers Café takes place at the Loose End Studio, Civic Theatre, Tallaght on Thursday 15th October at 8.15pm. It is a free event. For booking telephone (01) 462 7477 or e-mail boxoffice@civictheatre.ie
