Tidy Town Competition Announcements

Monday the 28th of September saw the announcement of the results of the 2015 SuperValu National Tidy Towns competition at The Helix in Dublin, where Mr Alan Kelly, T.D., Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government was on hand with Mr Martin Kelleher, Managing Director of SuperValu to present the prizes to the competition winners. While the Overall Tidy Towns Winner for 2015 went northwest to Letterkenny in Donegal (obtaining a score of 323), again like in previous years the Tidy Towns Groups of South Dublin County all preformed fantastically well, with all groups who entered the competition improving on their 2014 scores and continuing the year on year upward trend!!!!

Lucan Tidy Towns Group came out with a very impressive score of 294 awarded by the Tidy Towns Judges, while Clondalkin Tidy Towns Group made a huge gain on their score from last year reaching a score of 260 and netted an ‘Endeavour Award’ in the Competition for the 11.58% score increase on last year’s total.

Speaking after the Awards, Pat O’Sullivan Chairperson of the Clondalkin Tidy Towns Committee commented that "Clondalkin Tidy Towns are delighted and honoured to be awarded - for the second time - with an Endeavour Award. This year’s recognition is for the culmination of hard work and dedication to the life and soul of Clondalkin. Our achievement would not have been achieved without the generous help and support of many people.

I would like to thank the staff and management of SDCC for their continued and ongoing support of all Tidy Town Groups in South Dublin. To thank also all our Public Representatives who have been very supportive of our efforts to keep Clondalkin Clean.

The image of a Clean and Colourful Clondalkin was also made possible by donations from the public and sponsorship from numerous companies, businesses, contractors, groups and individuals. Most importantly I wish to thank our existing Committee for the thankless dedication and hard work throughout the last year.”

South Dublin Chief Executive Daniel Mc Loughlin passed on his congratulations to all Tidy Towns Groups in the County stating “the scores achieved by all the groups in South Dublin were a huge credit to tremendous efforts and sterling work done by the many many volunteers involved with the groups across the county”. Mr Mc Loughlin also stated that “South Dublin County Council would continue to work in partnership with all the Tidy Towns Groups in the County to build and improve on the great work and improvements done to date”.
