The Kings Hospital Secondary School, Brooklawn, Palmerstown, Dublin 20 - Raising their 4th Green Flag for Travel

On Friday 18th September 2015, Deputy Mayor Cllr Guss O’Connell and past-pupil Minister for Health Leo Varadkar, congratulated The Kings Hospital Secondary School in Palmerstown on receiving their fourth Green Schools Flag for Travel. This award was given as part of the Green Schools Programme supported by South Dublin County Council and An Taisce.

Cllr O’ Connell said “Taking part in the Green Schools programme takes a lot of hard work and effort, but your commitment to the programme has had some astounding results”.

He continued by thanking all of the students, the Green School Committee, the teachers, the school staff, the parents and the wider school community.

The Kings Hospital Secondary School really embraced the Travel theme by creating an innovative Action Plan which included;

  • An Action Day
  • Teachers and Pupils cycling to School
  • Carpooling for delivery and collection of students to school

Parents and students were asked to explore all their travel options. There are now significantly more students walking, using public transport or carpooling than before.

The four green flags have been earned over an 8 year process and Minister Varadkar and other guests of honour praised the on-going leadership being demonstrated by pupils and the greater school community in their efforts to maintain environmental awareness as part of school life at The King’s Hospital.
