The Great Outdoors on Dublin’s Doorstep – Discover Dublin...

Raise while you Ramble! - Charity Event Rambles across Dublin

Ramble Aid, a sponsored Charity Fundraiser for Teenline Ireland and Laura Lynn children’s charity will take place in the Dublin Mountains on Saturday 26th September.

The fundraiser, which boasts three events on one day, will include a 5k and 10k loop walk at Bohernabreena Reservoir, and 8k ramble to Maureen’s Brook and an exhilarating “4 Peaks Challenge 10k Hike”.

With Ramble Aid we hope to raise funds for worthwhile causes while promoting Tallaght as a gateway to the Dublin Mountains,” said Simon Sweeney of Killtipper Ramblers, organiser of Ramble Aid. “On event Day 26th September 2015 we will be joined by the Dublin Mountain Partnership and their rangers, promoting some of the most historic and scenic places of Ireland. Following the policies and guidelines of Mountaineering Ireland we will promote the responsible use of our Mountain areas.”

Registrations are open at www.rambleaid.ie - with all participants receiving a special edition Ramble Aid water bottle and t shirt. Each location has easy parking opportunities, all the routes are measured by Athletics Ireland and all events will be timed. Free refreshments will also be provided.

This is just one of the many recreational uses for our treasured resource, the Dublin Mountains. The Mountains offers a wealth of trails, ranging from multi access trails for all users to more challenging trails for the serious hill walker. To enhance the experience of users and visitors to the Dublin Mountains, South Dublin County Council recently engaged consultants to carry out a feasibility study on developing a visitor attraction and facility in the Dublin Mountains.

Welcoming this Chief Executive of South Dublin County Council, Daniel McLoughlin said, “South Dublin County Council’s Tourism Strategy positions the outdoors as part of the visitor experience of Dublin. The rivers, parks and mountains of the County play an important role in attracting visitors to the region and a facility in the Dublin Mountains has the potential to act as a flagship destination for tourists and domestic vistitors as well as the local community”.The development of a flagship facility in the Dublin Mountains sits well with Fáilte Ireland’s new vision for the visitor experience of Dublin;“The vibrant capital city bursting with a variety of surprising experiences-where city living thrives side by side with the natural outdoors.”It is expected that a final project plan and report will be made available by end December, 2015.
