New Music Development Manager Announced for Music Generation South Dublin
Music Generation South Dublin is delighted to announce the appointment of Avril Crotty as Music Development Manager for Music Generation South Dublin. Cork native, Avril joins Music Generation South Dublin to lead the project and oversee its development and creative direction.
With a BMus degree from C.I.T. Cork School of Music and a Masters degree in Music Business Management from University of Westminster, Avril has often combined her performance skills with that of business. A regular performer and music educator, she has also worked in marketing for many performing arts organisations in Ireland including The Gaiety School of Acting and Global Publishing in London.
There are currently over a thousand children and young people in South Dublin County participating in three programme strands: Ready Steady Sing; Ready Steady Play and Music Technology in the two Music Education Hubs of Collinstown and Rathcoole. To date, development has largely been focused in the primary schools in the rural areas of the county. With this new appointment, Avril hopes that development can now expand to post-primary schools in both rural and urban areas of South Dublin County.
She stated: “I am delighted to be part of Ireland’s National Music Education Programme and am looking forward to steering South Dublin County towards creating and discovering its own signature sound. With such diversity in the county, I have no doubt that the future for music development and education is bright.”
Music Generation is the national music education programme initiated by Music Network and co-funded by U2, The Ireland Funds, the Department of Education and Skills and local Music Education Partnerships.
Music Generation South Dublin local partners include Dublin & Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board, South Dublin County Council, Dublin West Education Centre, South Dublin Libraries and Rural Fingal Leader, Artscope, UCD School of Music and Knocklyon Concert Band.
All of these partners support the vision to create the foundation for a sustainable music education service in South Dublin County; which will inspire and engage children and young people to participate in active music-making in a musical county.
