YAM.ie Putting Dublin's young creative community on the map!
YAM.ie (Your Arts Map) is an exciting new website mapping out all arts and cultural events across Dublin created for and by 13 – 25 year olds, along with interactive public transportation information on how to get to events.
YAM.ie has been developed through partnership between South Dublin County Council, Dublin City Council, Temple Bar Cultural Trust and the National Youth Council of Ireland. The project has been funded by support from the Arts Council’s Local Partnership Scheme 2011 and designed and developed by practiceandtheory.com.
YAM.ie will launch on Weds, October 3rd from 4 – 5:30pm at the Wood Quay Venue in Dublin City Centre with live performances celebrating the excellent variety of young artists working today.
Dylan Haskins, activist, social entrepreneur and artist welcomes the development:
"YAM is an inspired resource for young people in Dublin. Social spaces, both physical and online, that allow creative young people with similar interests to connect with each other are essential to fostering alternative communities, beyond your school or your road. Mapping the many events, concerts and projects taking place in the city is practical, but also a powerful show of just how active young people are."
YAM.ie is completely free to use.It provides an interactive Google maps-based online arts and cultural information service for young people all over Dublin. Not only does it provide young creatives and cultural organisations with the opportunity to promote their events, projects and activities; through a partnership established with the innovativeteam behind hittheroad.ie, YAM.ie displays easy public transport connections. Now, young audiences will have a go-to website that lets them know exactly what’s on around Dublin for them, and how to get there.
The website allows users to update information easily online. By downloading a free FACEBOOK app all the information submitted to YAM will become available on one’s Facebook timeline automatically. Once the app is installed on one’s Facebook account, any subsequent listings added to YAM.ie will be available to all friends and fans instantly. An embeddable widget is also available so individuals can easily display their YAM listings on their own website or blog.
It is hoped that YAM.ie will be used by all kinds of performance groups, youth organisations, artists and venues to upload information about their activities and upcoming events specifically for 13 – 25 year olds.
Victoria Durrer, South County Dublin Youth Arts Coordinator, has explained of the initiative:
“We developed YAM.ie to answer a very real need that was expressed directly by the young creative people that we work with. We’ve been working with young people throughout the process to get their feedback on how the site looks, how user-friendly it is, and if it answers the right questions about what arts events are on and how to get to them."
