Launch of A report prepared by NALA (National Adult Literacy Agency)
Taking Steps to be a Literacy Friendly Local Authority
Showcasing South Dublin County Council
Mayor Cathal King will officially launch “Taking Steps to be a Literacy Friendly Local Authority†showcasing South Dublin County Council on Thursday 27th September 2012 at 12.00 pm in the Council Chamber, County Hall, Tallaght.
South Dublin County Council are the first Irish Local Authority to set out to become ‘literacy friendly’ using NALA’s Right from the Start approach.
This report outlines the outcomes of a collaborative process between NALA and South Dublin County Council. The aim of this process is to contribute to the council’s ongoing drive to be accessible and inclusive to all its customers and to become a literacy friendly organisation. The Social Inclusion Unit initiated the process as part of its work to promote social inclusion for all citizens in its area.
Literacy is one of the most important skills involved in reaching customers and in making the most of the talents of the staff in any organisation.
The event will form part of National Adult Literacy Awareness Week which runs from Monday 24th September to Friday 28th September. All the events are taking place in Tallaght this year.
