Press Release
South Dublin Traveller Culture Schools Project
South Dublin County Council is delighted to announce that we are working in partnership with Tallaght Travellers Community Development Project and Clondalkin Traveller Community Development Project on the roll out of a new initiative. This is a new initiative to promote greater understanding between Travellers and the settled communities. This project is being launched by Mayor Caitríona Jones on Monday 18th June at 12.00 pm as part of Traveller Pride Week. The week will focus on the positive contribution of Travellers and Traveller culture to our communities.
This project will involve Travellers visiting schools in the South Dublin area and engaging children in dialogue around Traveller culture in modern Ireland.
The initiative is being funded by the Department of Justice and Equality and forms a key part of South Dublin County Council’s programme for social inclusion. It is planned that the Travellers will visit a number of schools in the South Dublin area during the autumn term of 2012.
