The Mayor of South Dublin County Council, Cllr. Caitríona Jones was present in County Hall, Tallaght today to announce the launch the new ‘Fix Your Street’ Smartphone Application. Using the Android mobile phone ‘app’ a member of the public will be able to locate the exact location where they are via their phone’s GPS (global positioning system) in order to position a report, and send details of an issue they encounter with photograph attached if appropriate (fly tipping, pothole, graffiti, etc.) to the ‘Fix Your Street’ service.
Mayor Jones commented that “the website www.fixyourstreet.ie has been a great success to date; only recently I accepted three prestigious e-Gov awards on behalf of the council for the initiative and I very excited to be here today to launch the new smart phone app. I would also like to highlight South Dublin County Council’s continued work towards the delivery of high quality customer service to our citizens through the innovative use of technology.â€
The app will allow users to report an issue anonymously or they can provide their name and email address. If they are not at the location where they wish to report i.e. if they were at the office or from home, they can check Google’s street view to ensure they are at the correct location of the fault before reporting. When they have the correct location, they can fill out a very brief form (title of report, description, and location details) and attach a photograph of the issue if available.
Their issue gets uploaded directly into ‘fixyourstreet’ and automatically distributed to the relevant department who can begin to tackle the matter straight away.
A user can also view other public reports which have been logged previously - either on the map or as a list, to check out if their issue has already been reported or just to see whether there are any related issues of interest to them in a particular area. As with all reports to ‘fix your street’, there is a commitment to reply within 2 working days on the ‘fix your street’ website.
The ‘fix your street’ app is free to download for android devices and will also be available shortly for iphone users.
Background to www.fixyoursteet.ie
Launched last August, www.fixyourstreet.ie is a publicly accessible web site which allows local residents to report non emergency issues such as street lighting, drainage, graffiti, illegal dumping, road and footpath maintenance. Since its launch South Dublin County Council has received over 2,500 reports from members of the public. Residents are able to monitor the response and interact with their issue once it has been reported through the system.
