The SDCC Cup is almost at its conclusion and this year sees an interesting day as both Rathcoole and Colmcilles meet each other in both the Junior and Senior Finals. In just its second year of existence the SDCC Cup will be played in the fantastic surroundings of Tallaght Stadium. This reflects the growth of rugby in the area and the commitment of both Leinster Rugby and South Dublin County Council to promote the game in the area.

Rathcoole have been in the unusual situation of playing in both of the finals last year however despite this fact they were beaten by Oatlands Community College in the Senior and by Colmcilles in the Junior section last year. The pain of losing both games must be in the mind of the players and should serve to make for a great contest. Colmcilles had success in the Junior section last year but this is the first feature in the Senior final. Both teams had some very tough games in the Semi Finals with Colmcilles beating last year’s winners of the Senior Cup Oatlands and Rathcoole beating a very strong Drimnagh Castle side. In the Junior section Colmcilles overcame a Lucan C.C side that took them all the way  and Rathcoole managed to edge Mac Dara’s in a hotly contested semi.

Leinster CRO for the South Dublin County Council Niall Neville commented  â€œThis will be a great day for rugby in the county. The competition has grown and levels of interest in the schools is growing all the time. All the schools that played have been invited and I hope they take up the opportunity to come down on the day. Tallaght Stadium will be a great venue for the competition and it will be great for the players to play in front of a big crowd and hear them cheering them on!”
