Arising from a statement issued by Greyhound Recycling and Recovery this morning, South Dublin County Council wishes to clarify the following -

South Dublin County Council sold the it’s waste collection service to Greyhound Recycling & Recovery Limited in April 2011. One of the principal concerns of the Council was to ensure a continued service to non paying waiver customers for a transitional period and this was achieved under the Sale Agreement.

Under the Agreement, Greyhound Recycling committed to providing a service to Waiver Customers for a period of 12 months at Greyhound’s cost.

The Agreement was concluded on the basis of Paying Customers. No deduction was made under the Agreement in lieu of Waiver Customers. At no stage did the Council provide a subvention or subsidy to Greyhound Recycling & Recovery Ltd for the delivery of the service to Waiver Customers.

Residents are advised that there is a wide choice of service providers available to them in arranging for a household collection service. Residents can access information on the waste service providers operating in the county, on waste prevention and the network of recycling facilities provided throughout the region by South Dublin County Council and other Local Authorities at www.dublinwaste.ie
