Highly acclaimed actor and director rolls up his sleeves to support young talent this March

 

Hugh O’Conor to host acting workshop and serve as judge as part of young filmmakers festival, March 24th 2012.

 

Hugh O’Conor, is one of Ireland’s most creative talents as an actor, writer and director of 3 short films including the Irish Film Board Short “Corduroy” which won the Best Fiction/ Experiment at the Clones Film Festival 2010. He is set to appear on the judging panel and host an acting workshop at the NOISE Flicks Film Festival 2012, an initiative of South Dublin County Council’s Arts Office for young people ages 14 – 18 in the County.   

The Acting workshop is one of a series of exciting film-related events to be held as part of NOISE Flicks Film Festival in March 2012, which aims to provide film enthusiasts aged 14-18 with the opportunity to meet and learn from accomplished industry professionals.

 

Hugh’s credits as an actor include Chocolat (2000), The Three Musketeers (1993), My Left Foot (1989), Lamb(1985) and Speed Dating (2007) for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the IFTA Awards in 2008. He also directs commercials and has exhibited in Dublin and Belfast as a stills photographer.

 

Hugh will be appearing at the festival on Friday March 23rd for an awards ceremony followed by a Q and A session with Sheila DeCourcy, Commissioning Editor of Young People’s Programming for RTÉ. The price to attend this event is €2.

 

Young people, ages 14 – 18 who live, work or study in South Dublin County may enter their films or scripts into the Festival competition by March 6th 2012.

 

On his upcoming workshop Hugh said:

 

“It’s an honour to be involved in such a worthwhile project, and with such a creative and talented team of young filmmakers.”

 

The workshop is taking place on Saturday 24th March from 11am-4pm at RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre. The price to take part is €5 including lunch. As spaces are limited, interested individuals are advised to contact RUA RED (01-4515860) to book in advance.

 

About Us

 

NOISE Flicks is a youth film festival initiative of South Dublin County Council’s Arts Office that showcases and celebrates the creative talent of young people aged 14-18 in South Dublin County. The festival provides an opportunity for young people to meet and hear from professionals in the film-making industry.

 

The festival began in March 2009 and has since gone from strength to strength. Is part of the NOISE South Dublin online project and networked NOISE Community of creative young people in South Dublin. www.noisesouthdublin.com. NOISE Flicks is supported by RUA RED, South Dublin Arts Centre; RTÉ; Án Làr TV and IT Tallaght.

 

NOISE Flicks competitions are open to individual young filmmakers (aged14-18), living or studying in South Dublin County, as well as groups (such as schools, PLC, Third Level colleges or youth services) in South Dublin County.
