Divine Word National School raises its Fourth Green Flag!
5th October 2011
Divine Word National School Marley Grange, Rathfarnham celebrated the raising of their fourth green flag for Travel on Wednesday 5th October 2011. The flag was raised by Mayor of South Dublin County Councillor Caitriona Jones.
She congratulated the staff and pupils for their hard work and dedication in protecting and improving their environment saying “People passing by this school are very impressed to see all your green flag flying and this sends a strong message that the pupils and staff at this school really do care about the environment. The flag is a symbol of all your hard work to make your school a cleaner and greener place. We all know how important it is to care for our environment but it is easy to talk about it and not take action. Your actions here at Divine Word are improving and enhancing the environment – actions like walking or cycling to school, recycling waste, keeping your school litter free and saving water and energy. It can’t have been easy to keep it all going but today you can all be proud of the hard workâ€
64 schools in South Dublin County now fly the Green Flag. The An Taisce Green-Schools programme is now entering into its 15th year in Ireland, and the programme continues to grow from strength to strength! There are currently 3,560 schools registered on the Green-Schools programme and 2,310 are flying the Green Flag. Schools are currently working hard on the seven different themes of the programme; Litter and Waster, Energy, Water, Travel, Biodiversity, Global Citizenship, and Climate Change. Over 700,000 students are involved and nearly 50,000 teachers!
