Eco Week 2011 launched in style

Mayor of South Dublin County, Cllr Marie Corr, launched Eco–week and presented certificates & prizes to winning students of the South Dublin County Council funded Garbo Productions funky anti-litter fashion show on Monday 4th April in the Council Chamber, Tallaght.

Mayor Cllr Marie Corr said “I am delighted to launch Eco-week and was amazed at the wonderful show the students put together today. Eco–Week is an opportunity for all of us in the County to learn new skills and recognise the value of community clean-ups, graffiti removal days, flower planting and water conservation to the place we live”.

Eco week provides workshops, all of which are free, to help us live our lives in a more sustainable manner for instance the Grow your own workshop shows us how to grow & harvest our own vegetable and fruit from scratch & you don’t have to have any previous experience to take part in the workshop.

Sorcha O’Brien, Environmental Awareness Officer for South Dublin County Council said “The launch of Eco-Week had a particularly creative twist to it this year with the finalists of the Garbo Productions funky anti-litter fashion show strutting their stuff in fashion items made from recyclable materials, so instead of the materials used being recycled they were up-cycled which is even better than recycling”.

Earlier this year over 1200 students from around South Dublin County took part in the Garbo Anti-litter fashion show & drama workshop from which 13 finalists were chosen to take part in the fashion show. The winners of the Garbo Anti-litter fashion show are as follows:
