Miriam Meets Roddy Doyle and his Parents, Ita & Rory

To celebrate Readiscover, the County Library Tallaght is delighted to present Miriam O’Callaghan in conversation with Roddy Doyle and his parents on Thursday 24th March at 10.30am

 

The ever popular RTÉ Radio series “Miriam meets…” is coming to the County Library Tallaght!

In this series, Miriam O'Callaghan interviews individuals who have a strong connection, whether through family, business or otherwise. Miriam’s conversation with Roddy Doyle and his parents Rory & Ita, will be the first time that the programme is recorded in front of an audience, to be broadcast on RTE Radio 1 on Sunday 27th March. Roddy Doyle's short story "Brilliant" is the theme for this year's Saint Patrick's Day Parade in Dublin.

Roddy Doyle

Roddy Doyle is the author of nine novels, a collection of stories, and Rory & Ita, a memoir of his parents. He has written five books for children and has contributed to a variety of publications including The New Yorker, McSweeney’s, Metro Eireann and several anthologies. He won the Booker Prize in 1993, for Paddy Clarke Ha Ha Ha.

Roddy has written for the stage and his plays include Brownbread and Guess Who’s Coming For The Dinner. He co-adapted with Joe O’Byrne his novel The Woman who Walked into Doors and he co-wrote with Bisi Adigun a new version of The Playboy of the Western World.

He also wrote the screenplays for The Snapper, The Van, Family, When Brendan Met Trudy and he co-wrote the screenplay for The Commitments.

He lives and works in Dublin

Miriam O’Callaghan

Miriam O’Callaghan presents RTÉ’s flagship current affairs television programme Prime Time.

Before joining RTÉ, Miriam worked for ten years in British television, seven of those as a reporter for BBC 2’s Newsnight programme.

Having previously trained as a solicitor, Miriam began working for RTÉ in 1992, first as a presenter on the financial programme Marketplace and then with Prime Time. Miriam presented the 2003 Special Olympics World Summer Games which were held in Croke Park in June. In November 2003, Miriam won the public vote for Best TV Personality at the Irish Film and Television Awards.

Miriam, senior presenter with Prime Time, has interviewed Bob Geldof, Hilary Clinton and Bono, as well as the leaders of the main political parties prior to the last General Election and the last Presidential debate between the five candidates.

O’Callaghan has presented a six-week chat show on RTÉ One. “Saturday Night With Miriam” which proved to be a great success and ran for three years.
