South Dublin County Council elects New Mayor
South Dublin County Council elected a new Mayor, Cllr. Marie Corr at the Council Meeting held Monday, 14th March, 2011 in the Council Chamber, County Hall, Tallaght.
Mayor Marie Corr was proposed by Councillor Eamon Tuffy and was seconded by Deputy Mayor Councillor Cathal King. Mayor Marie Corr was elected for the remainder of the term of her predecessor Eamonn Maloney who was recently elected to the 31st Dail.
The new Mayor Cllr. Marie Corr thanked her fellow Councillors for the honour to serve as Mayor of South Dublin County for a second term. “When I was last Mayor in 2008/2009 things were frantic as it was the local election year. I am looking forward to taking on the role without the additional pressure. I am delighted to be Mayor of one of the most innovative and progressive local authorities in the country and I look forward to highlighting all the wonderful activities and the excellent facilities we have here in the county. I want to focus on making real positive changes for the citizens and all the communities we serve here in South Dublin County”.
The following new Councillors were also co-opted at the Council Meeting to fill the four vacancies which resulted from the recent General Election.
Cllr. Breeda Bonner (Lab) replacing Robert Dowds
Cllr. Chris Bond (Lab) replacing Eamonn Maloney
Cllr. Maire Devine (SF) replacing Sean Crowe
Cllr. Emer Higgins (FG) replacing Derek Keating
The outgoing Mayor of South Dublin County, Eamonn Maloney thanked his fellow Councillors, County Manager and the staff of South Dublin County Council for all their help and support during his term of office.
