Mayor Eamonn Maloney in the presence of Ms. Mary White T.D., Minister for Equality, Integration and Human Rights will present certificates of participation to the children who have completed their eight week course in the Fettercairn Youth Horse Project towards integration. The aim of the project is to facilitate the integration of Irish children with children from the New Communities through equine related activities. The Youth Horse Project is a community owned / based centre and was established in 1995. The facility is approved by the A.I.R.E (Association of Irish Riding Establishments) and the BHS (British Horse Society).
The Fettercairn Horse Project, which is a fully insured equestrian centre, has designed a set of programmes to cater for all levels of riding competence. FYHP provides fully qualified tuition for single / group everyday programmes as well as once weekly single / group users.
The objectives of the Integration Programme are:
- To facilitate the integration of Irish children with children from the New Communities through equine related activities
- To use equine related activities as a source of creativity, innovation, behavioural development and self expression
- To promote the participation of New Communities and Irish Communities in a programme they would not otherwise have the opportunity to avail of due to the cost element
- To promote positive integration and inclusion in such a way as to eliminate social exclusion and discrimination. Children with disabilities are welcome to join the programme.
