Press Release Issued: 3rd November 2010

South Dublin Comhairle na nÓg AGM took place on Wednesday 27th October 2010 in Tallaght Stadium.  This event was opened by Mayor Eamonn Maloney and organised by South Dublin County Council, Foróige and Catholic Youth Care. It was a great success. Young people Countywide were invited to attend through their schools, Youth Services and South Dublin Libraries. Seventy five young people from the County attended. This event allowed young people to have fun but also to get involved in round table discussions on issues that affect young people in our County i.e. education, mental health, support services, anti social behaviour etc. Comhairle na nÓg Elections also take place to elect the new Comhairle for 2010 - 2012. Seventeen young people representing their electoral areas will join 5 of the outgoing Comhairle members for a new two year term. South Dublin County Sports Office organised a “Penalty Shoot Out “on the day on Tallaght Stadium Pitch. The participants also took part in a Table Quiz.

Comhairli na nÓg are local youth councils, which give children and young people the opportunity to be involved in the development of local services and policies. It provides the youth of South Dublin County with an opportunity to identify and discuss matters which affect their daily lives, and is a place for young people to pass on their views and concerns to decision-makers in both local and national government.
